I was pretty excited to capture this Great Horned Owl in the middle of the day - I was in Ladner and was biking along the dyke on my way to the Deas Slough. I watched it for about 30 mins - not so much because it was doing anything but because of all the other birds that seemed to be "checking" it out. I saw House Finch, American Goldfinch, Downy Woodpecker, Chickadees, Anna's Hummingbird, Red-Winged Blackbirds, Wren (not sure if Bewick's or Marsh), Brown Creeper and Robins - and Northern Flicker and Cedar Waxwings landed in a tall tree behind it - all from the one spot I was standing, peering between the trees and bushes to see the owl. A very entertaining 30 mins. The owl was still there 2 hours later when I was on my way back from the slough. It had turned around and wide awake - and then it also "yawned" or....? It also had a very good look at me! Attachments:

Nice shots! Seeing an owl is always exciting. His mouth is probably open because he's complaining about the birds "checking him out".
