I had just assumed House Finch and now wondering if Redpoll (being so new at this I don't have very skilled eye to know). Found these happy birds near small water way in the blackberry bushes and small trees on Sumas Prairie in early January 2016. Picture not so great either - sorry - very gray day and I was some distance from them... Thanks Attachments:

Those are both male House Finches. Redpolls are whiter, smaller finches with little red caps and stubby beaks. Males have pink breasts and dark streaked flanks. Females have plain white breasts and dark streaked flanks.

Thanks for confirming my first impression and for teaching me the distinctions... Gabi
