I was fishing on the Vedder about 1 km above the train bridge today, and I heard some very unexpected calls. I couldn't investigate further because I had my kids with me, but I could have sworn that I heard a sandhill crane and a blue jay (each multiple times). Both have very distinctive calls that I know well, so I'm not sure what to think. Both came from the Browne Rd wetlands area across the river from my location. Was anyone there today, and perhaps heard or saw anything out of the ordinary? I would love to be able to confirm one or both of these; otherwise, we'll just call them auditory hallucinations.

You could have heard a Sandhill Crane, they do migrate through this area sometime. We have actually been able to get photos of them in Greendale one September. Bruce and Joanne
