Here's a system that has worked for me for the past 5 years. Costs next to nothing to run 5-10W 24/7 through the winter and both my feeders still have the original bulbs in them. $40-50 plus the feeder! CAUTION!! I only switch them on when the temp is forecast to drop below zero!

Bert, I like it! Might give it a go as it's a lot of work swapping out feeders during cold snaps with thawed feeders kept in the house with the ones frozen outside.
