I spotted a small dark reddish sparrow the size of a Lincoln's sparrow on the Harrison River CBC on Dec 17. It was about 3:00 pm cloudy and light mist falling. The area is part of the flood plain of the Harrison River, this is a large area on the Band lands, it is covered by reed canary grass and sedges and areas of brush. The area had been burnt and a bird was foraging in the burnt brush and grass stems. I watched the bird until I was sure it was a swamp sparrow then I tried to get a photo with no luck. The bird would diaper in to the brush and I would mimic a PAWR call and it would move toward me again but stayed within plant cover. I got a good look at the head, it was very similar to a Lincoln's Sparrow but darker. This is only the forth swamp sparrows I have seen but have looked at many on the net before and after the count. I tried to get a photo but was unsuccessful but this is a photo of the site it was in. After about two min another sparrow emerged close by and chased the first one into the brush and that was the last I saw of them. The second sparrow looked the same as the first. Still working on the CBC's will be posting soon. Denis

Denis another great CBC sighting. Like you, I also have difficulty getting a photo of this species.
