I spotted what I believe is a Iceland gull during the Harrison River CBC on the Dec. 17. It was across the river on the south side of the Harrison River with GWGUs near by. I zoomed in and took a photo not a good photo but I think it is a first winter ICGU. comments please.

Denis, my initial thought is possibly Glaucous Gull? The picture gives perhaps a different perspective from what you had in the field but the size and proportions seems on the large/bulky side for an Iceland. The bill looks to be sharply bicoloured as well which would certainly be a trademark on a Glaucous. Either way, both are great birds to find and good additions to the count. Nice Swamp Sparrows as well! Thanks for the message. Murray, Brian and I were on the lookout for those incidentally. Great you found some!

You are right Gord. At the time I think I saw the black tip on the bill but forgot about it dealing with all the date an birds from the two counts. I never looked at the photo or put a name to it till last night when I was half asleep. I can see that it is defiantly a Glaucous Gull. I think I just wanted it to be a ICGL.
