I see only 9 records for the Upper Fraser Valley for this species so hope it qualifies as a rare bird. This morning at the peak of the snow storm I looked out on the patio to see what was among the juncos, song sparrows, house finches and towhees and there was a bird I at first couldn't identify. Once I managed a few pictures I saw the very rusty crown, the two vivid white wing stripes and then the dark spot on the plain belly. American Tree Sparrow! A nice Christmas present and a new yard bird all in one. Not sure what the parameters are for CBC count week but if it hasn't been reported yet it can now.

Nice sighting Murray. Great yard bird too.
I believe it would qualify as a rare bird. Last few years we have had a decent amount of sightings of the AT Sparrows. This would be the ninth record as Janne had one in Harrison and Mike Force had the one at Thacker Marsh.

Noticed an error in my first post, should be 12th record.

Good find Murray nice yard bird I'm still hoping for one at my feeder. This is a count week bird for the Harrison River count but as it is a rare bird for the count it will need a rare bird form filled out. I will send you one if you send me your email address to bcwilddenis@uniserve.com if you could also send your photos that would be great. I got two rare birds on the CBC Harrison River that I will post right away. I was hoping this snow would bring rare birds to the feeders. Denis
