Later this afternoon between this ugly rain I drove down Banford Road to see if the Franklin's Gulls were still around. They were not although there were a good number of gulls including plenty of Mew Gulls. On the poles where the Golden Eagle has been hanging out was a nice Gyrfalcon. I then spotted a Short-eared Owl flying along the side of the road before landing on the fence post. A truck drove by and scared it but it landed again. It was not too worried about me pulled over but when another vehicle came roaring along it moved a couple posts down. The next noisy vehicle caused it to fly again but this time it treated me to hunting along the road. I then saw a second owl come across the road and land on a post. She's a little wet! Beautiful birds!

Amazing captures Gord! Short ears generally seem to be relatively cooperative. Very much appreciate your many reports!

Hey Gord and friends:
Great report Gord!
After seeing Dave's report Sunday about the Franklin's gull on Banford Rd, I had hoped to make it over there from Abbotsford early Monday morning, but the heavy rain didn't allow it. Checking the weather report last night, and seeing there was a 40% chance of showers only, I made my way there around 7:30-7:45 am. Clear skies and very cold and beautiful. After scanning the fields on Banford on both sides of Prairie Central I saw no Franklin's gull. As you said, Gord, there were many Mews and other gulls. I saw maybe a 100 Trumpeters in various fields. Too far away to check for Tundras with just binoculars. I'll keep searching Abbotsford and Chilliwack for potential Lifers such as Tundra Swan, Golden eagle, Franklin's and other new gulls (Icelandic, Ivory, Slaty-backed). Have a good day everyone!

Fantastic pictures Gord. Great to see two of these guys out on Banford road. Not too many were seen last winter so its good to see a few kicking around.
Also, nice to hear the Gyrfalcon is still in the area.
