After talking with Dave Beeke about his visit to see the Bar-tailed Godwit at Boundary Bay, and that a Hudsonian Godwit had now joined it, I felt even more compelled to try and make my annual visit. I found time, but knew it would be short. I decided to go anyway if nothing more than old time's sake. It was a really beautiful day and despite a bit of a poor tide, there were plenty of birds around even though a little far away at places. I saw Ruddy Turnstone, a pair of Red-necked Phalarope, lots of Black-bellied Plover and even two Red Knots. Quite a few Sanderling as well. I was amazed at all the ducks which included plenty of Northern Pintail. I wonder why they miss us out here and seem to be more of a spring thing when we'll see better numbers of them. Back to the Bay. A long-distance digiscoped photo of a Red Knot Among the plovers was something just a bit larger. The Hudsonian Godwit! Ive seen one once before some time ago, so it was a real treat to see. It was a bit closer than the knots and the digiscoping managed a better picture. I scanned around for the Bar-tailed Godwit, which would be a new bird for me, but no luck. No bother though, it's always a treat just to be there. I walked between 104th and 96th street. At the pilings were a decent number of 'peep' sandpipers including Western, Least, Baird's and Pectoral. The Pectoral looks like a giant Least Sandpiper. Nice outing. Im not sure if the godwits are still around, but the Bar-tailed had been seen almost daily for a week or so.

Nice report Gord, great list, scope is a must out there as I found out , unless the tide is up to 13.25 feet (I would guess). I went out on monday did see the BT Godwit and others ( most the same) , but they were to far out for any great detail. Hoping to try do a report.
The high tide was approx 3:45 at a hieght of about 12.27feet.
If anyone is interested it gets higher all this week to 13.8 on thurs, I think. Times are approx 4:30pm today , 5:00pm (wed) and thurs at 5:40. I'm hoping to get out there after work thurs.

Thanks Ken and Martin.
Martin, keep us posted. Might get a little window of time next week to take another look. Ill go regardless of rare birds being around, but nice to know what is there all the same.
