Good weekend, fellow birders. I did a quick sweep of the Sumas Prairie area this Friday afternoon, but there was not much happening, beside the many gulls on the Sumas River and Vedder canal. I found at least four beautiful male Hooded Mergansers and an equal number of females on the Sumas River. There was one male Ring-necked Pheasant in the north east corner of Dixon and No 4 Road. Good birding everyone. John Vooys, Abbotsford.

I saw some as well again yesterday evening. Sadly, one, a rooster, was hit on Highway #1 west of No. 3 Road. I saw two other roosters on Marion Road near Wells Line Rd walking together. I wonder if someone has begun releasing them again in the area. I remember years ago they were fairly common but have dropped in numbers significantly. I could not get a good view to see if it looks like they had been caged birds (tattered tail feathers is a good hint of this)
