Hi fellow birders. Some of you knew that I was going to Paraguay for the Mennonite World Conference. It was moving to worship the Creator with over 5000 people from all over the world. I am not a "world birder" but I did take one day off from the conference to bird with a local guide. We birded for about 8 hours and found 101 species. I won't bother you will all the species we saw but I'll give some of the birds names to show what a new bird vocabulary you'd have to get usd to! Toucan; Hornero; Emerald; Sapphire; Woodcreeper; Becard; Euphonia; Cacique; Oropendola; Tyrant; Jacana; Piculet; Rushbird; Spinetail; Thornbird; Antshrike; Elaenia; Suiriri; Doradito; Tody-Tyrant; Monjita; Saltator; and Woodnymph. We had one day at Iguazzu Falls in Brazil where I hoped to see the something I'd seen in Attenborough's video on birds: the Great Dusky Swifts diving through the falls to get at their roosts. This I did see and by the hundreds. It was awesome. Good birding, everyone, John Vooys

Hi John, Both the worship and the birding sounds fantastic! How can you not be a world birder and still see 101 Paraguay species? Not much overlap in those bird families from my Asia experience. Must be a whole new "bird" world! One day.... I remember well the part in BBC's Life of Birds where the swifts fly through....glad you got to see it live! Thanks for sharing, Dave
