Just thought I'd post this here as well, I believe I saw a Tropical Kingbird this morning at the end of 64th Street in Boundary Bay. I posted a few really bad pics I took with a digital camera through my scope. The yellow on its breast went all the way up to its throat, it had a notched tail, and a thicker/longer bill than a Western Kingbird. I also witness a Northern Shrike try several times, to rob us of a Rarity. When this happened the Kingbird made a twittering call that is described in the sibleys guide. For the majority of the time I observed it, it was flycatching from the Powerlines along the greenhouses. But it was also in the adjacent horse field, flycatching from the wooden fence. Hopefully it sticks around. -Ryan

Ryan, great bird! Sounds bang on for a Tropical Kingbird. Certainly a bird Im keeping my eyes open for. Glad he avoided the shrike. Congrats once again, and glad you shared it. Out of town stuff is always welcome too.

Ryan: Great find, and i.d. I think you should change your Fraser Valley Birding name to 64th St. Ryan. First, a Blue Jay, and, now, a Tropical Kingbird- wow!! I joined the masses today, in the rain, to see this bird. After a short wait, while it was sitting in a distant tree in the plowed field, closer to the Ladner Trunk Rd., it decided to fly back to 64th, and quickly jumped from tree to bush, to hydro wire, etc. I took some lousy pictures with my point and shoot digita, which, are, at best, good for i.d. purposes. Several times, it was seen with food in its beak, so, hopefully, the abundant food will encourage it to stick around for a bit. Shows its big beak, and extensive yellow breast. Emphasizes the big beak. Shows the notched tail. Cheers, Thor Thor Manson Hope, B.C.

Glad lots of people got to see it today, too bad the weather wasn't so nice. Hope it stays around so more people can see it, and yeah I just might have to change my name to 64th St Ryan, maybe when I get a scissor tailed flycatcher or something.

Great find, Ryan, and thanks for posting the photos, Thor.
If I was at all within reach of that bird I would be on my way there this weekend....would be a life bird for me.
Dave (currently too far away)
P.S. I would simply ignore the Pygmy-Owls seeing how plentiful they are this year....haha.

Hello birders,
Carolynn and I saw the Tropical Kingbird at 11:00am. It is still at 64th Avenue and 28th Street in Delta.
