Have just returned from a fishing trip on the the Thompson River at Juniper Beach Provincial Campground. Juniper Beach is on Hwy. 1 about a half hour drive east of Cache Creek. Although the trout fishing was good, the birding was on the slow side with only 27 species sighted during my stay. For me the highlight bird was the Chukar, with birds being seen and heard every day. They were definitely most active up to about 9:00 a.m. and we saw them on both sides of the river. For anyone needing this bird for their list I would recommend first stopping at Spence's Bridge at the railroad siding where they forage for spilled grain. If that doesn't produce, then head on up to Juniper, which is about another hours drive.

Good advice Murray! When I fished the Thompson I always watched for them but never any luck. Dad had a similar report from earlier this month.
I do need the species.
Glad to hear you had a nice trip.
