I was asked to be in charge of this area and the plan was to do it with a lady named Michelle. She unfortunately became quite sick and had to miss her opportunity to take part in her 1st CBC. I did it on my own. There were 3 highlights to the day: 1. I was invited into a barn by the owner and was shown how to get up to the top floor to possibly view some owls. I struck out with this experience and even returned later to try again. I was unsuccessful again. He invited to come back any time I was able to. I think I’ll take him up on this invitation, except next time with a flashlight 2. I observed some TRSW, 7 of them with 2 teenagers, and a smaller, white bird flew in: It was a SNGO. My thought was “this is a new experience for me!”. It was behind a gently sloped portion of the field and so as I viewed the goose through my scope, all I could see at times was its head or it’s neck, head and part of it’s body. I competed this to the larger swans. Cool! 3. As I took a break to use the restroom at a local gas station, I came outside, looked up in response to some bird calls. I determined that I was witnessing 2 AMPI flying by. As the lone birder I managed to tally 43 species. I found sparrows to be quite quiet and therefore hard to identify. I wonder how many additional species could have been added ‘with a little help from my friends!’ Happy birding!
