I have been out of it for a week with Covid, but have been taking a peak at the lake every once in a while. Today was a big duck day on Kawkawa, I counted just over 160 birds in a couple of rafts. The weather was not great for viewing with a good wind and constant rain and high winds and hail for a while, which started some fog. There were 3 Western Grebe in the mix, they looked huge and bright in the middle of a lot of small brown/grey ducks. Left with a lot of unidentified ducks.

There were less ducks on Kawkawa today, mainly missing were the Ring-necked ducks, probably about 60 moved along. There were 8 Scoters showed up though, managed to identify 2 Surf and 2 White-winged. Also had 18 Glaucous-winged Gull, a Rudy Duck and more Bufflehead.

A good place to check especially after a storm. Both spring and fall migrations can have a lot of action on the water. I think my best count of Bufflehead there has exceeded 300 birds. It was quite the sight.

Was that a future cast Gord? There may be 300 Bufflehead there today, with even more Mallard and other species. There is a large raft starting tight in the NE corner and running out to the point, at least there was before the two eagles started harassing them. The snow level came down low around Hope, with heavier snow than the day before. I believe there may be 2000 ducks in there. 4 Swans on the lake today also.
