At East Sector Park at the corner of McPherson and McCombs was a Swamp Sparrow. It was very quiet I almost didn't notice it there as I went past. Also nearby was a female Yellow Warbler. _0232025 by Geordie LaForge, on Flickr At Tuyttens Wetlands I saw a young Grey-crowned Rosy Finch feeding on the dried up slough at the end of Cutler. I had barely seen it when a Kestrel snagged it and somehow flew up to a pole with it. I've never seen an American Kestrel take down something that large before. _0232036 by Geordie LaForge, on Flickr

I wonder if this might not be the same bird as the one at Jesperson. As the crow flies it's only 6.5km away, and they are both young birds ...

Forgot to mention there was also a Yellow Warbler near the Swamp Sparrow.

I've noticed Pine Siskin numbers picking up in the Valley. Doubtful they're connected to rosy finch movements but signs suggest perhaps for both there might be a few kicking around down low this winter and perhaps big flocks of siskens again. It's been a couple years since we've last had that for siskins.

There are good numbers of Redpolls in the Peace region this month so maybe we will get a few this winter.
