A day late for September, we found a Swamp Sparrow at Cheam Lake about 100m down the Loop Trail. Got nice but brief looks on our way down. On our return it was calling a bit further back on the east side of the trail. A beautiful day of perfect temperature.

A Swamp Sparrow continues this morning. Saw it from where the white pipe is near the start of the loop trail. It was among some reeds.

Was there again today. Quite hard to hear at times with about 2000 Cackling Geese on the lake and voicing their displeasure at a Bald Eagle that was working the flock hoping for an easy target. The Canada Geese take little notice of the eagles. Last weekish Benny and I found a Marsh Wren. Not really notable but of late they've really seemed to have decreased in numbers in the Fraser Valley. Willband Creek Park seems to be the most reliable place for them but even there seems to be not much more than three or four at best and even less now that we're in the fall.

Ed, not surprised to hear that. I don't think Marsh Wren bred at Thacker this year. If so, they were uncharacteristically quiet about it all. kenneth2019 is in that neck of the woods and not sure if he saw any there this summer. The ones you saw likely migrants. I did see one at Hope Airport in late September. Not typical habitat so for sure a migrant that paused on its journey. Cheam Lake used to have several active nests each summer. I don't think they've nested there for the last 2-3 years if not four. A quick look at eBird data from the park makes me think around 2018 is when they started to drop off.

No, I didn't see any there and Merlin did not hear any, lol.

Swamp Sparrow continues yesterday at Cheam Lake at the start of the Loop Trail where the white culvert goes out in the lake.
