First stop was Reifel. Not surprisingly, it wasn't as active as it gets in the fall and winter months. The highlight was seeing one Wilson's and 6 Red-necked Phalaropes. I used to see them often in the Peace. Had three species of teal, all in their molting plumage. It was cool to observe Cinnamon next to a Blue-winged. There were a lot of Purple Martins present. Had 26 sitting all on the nest boxes and a few others scattered around.
After Reifel, I went to Point Roberts. It wasn't active but did see a couple of Sanderling and Oystercatchers.
Boundary Bay was next. I parked at 104th and walked to 112th then all the way to the mansion. Overall, it was active with shorebirds. A lot of Black-bellied Plovers and Western Sandpipers. Baird's Sandpipers are making their way through. The highlight was two Red Knots at 104th. One was mostly still in its breeding plumage. Good numbers of Sanderling and Semipalmated Plovers. Had some Least Sandpipers and a few Semipalmated. Always neat to see where the different species of shorebird feed and also how they feed.
Tallied 17 species of shorebirds
