A quick catch up.
On the 11th at Eagle Point Park in Harrison Mills I spotted three Semipalmated Sandpipers with some Leasts out on the flats. I got a very distant photo
It is the paler bird on the left. All sandpipers (other than Spotted Sandpiper) that we see now are adults. Their young are still at the breeding grounds and not able to fly yet.

I was pleased to see lots of Purple Martins at the nest boxes and flying about. I watched as they plucked some willow leaves and took them to their nest boxes. They like to add fresh leaves to their nests and any I've peeked inside have had plenty. Perhaps they're going to do a second brood? I've suspected that they do.

There was a Grey Catbird here as well and a great many swallows which was also nice to see including lots of young birds.

At East Sector Park I came across two pairs of Grey Catbird. One pair was quite unhappy about something. I never saw what it was but suspect a mink or other mammal predator. I was interested to note that one was carrying a small frog; no doubt intended to feed its young once the threat it was scolding left.

Yesterday on Gibson Road I saw the Long-billed Dowitchers and Least Sandpipers that Ben and Jon found.

This morning there were two drake Northern Pintail. I don't think I've seen many in July here. There were five Long-billed Dowitcher and a handful of Least Sandpiper as well.

I had a couple of right place at the right time today with a Western Kingbird on Prairie Central Road just east of Upper Prairie, a Green Heron flying over Young Road near Minter's (I don't think I saw one last year) and the California Scrub Jays seem to be nesting again at Hazel Street near Yale as I saw one in the holly tree again as well as July 1.
