I was at an annual retreat at Rockridge Canyon, near Princeton, last weekend. Though it wasn't a birding trip per se, I was able to get a good amount of birding in, during my free time. Late on Friday night, I heard a Northern saw-whet owl calling in the distance; my first for the Okanagan-Similkameen District. A late-morning walk around the camp the next day produced Pygmy nuthatches, Mountain chickadees, and two separate Ruffed grouse; all year birds for me. Just up the road from the place, August Lake had a decent variety of waterfowl on it, despite still being partially frozen. Already looking forward to next year .
