A friend of a friend in South Chilliwack forwarded this pic for ID. A rare one for Fraser Valley if true. Still trying to confirm. Anyone else seen or heard of this sighting? flic.kr/p/2odnLka

Nope, hadn't seen this.
The challenge is knowing whether it's a wild bird. But since Chukar are sedentary (not really migratory) I think they are assumed released unless it can be proven otherwise.
I know Christian had one on top of Elk a bit back (a year or two ago?).
Still cool to see, I have yet to find one 😆
Was the photo from the valley?

Seen yesterday apparently. I didn't know people kept them domestically. Could just be an escape then

A bunch of Chukars escaped some 5 years ago or so from an East Chilliwack farm during a wind storm. Chances are hight that this would be an escapee from a similar event.

Apparently there is someone in the Chilliwack River Valley who raises them and they periodically escape (or are released). It sure was surprising to see that one up at the Elk summit! (That was in May 2021)
