Halfway through May Peace Report

May is a great month in the Peace region for birds. At the beginning of the month, there were a few Rough-legged Hawks still hanging around. The latest day I have had them up here.
Waterfowl arrive in excellent numbers. On a few occasions, I have had very good scope views of breeding plumage Long-tailed Ducks.

Lapland Longspurs migrate through the area in excellent numbers. It’s always weird seeing them on occasion in trees.





I had a Dunlin the other day which is not too common up here. Yesterday, there was a report of a few Avocets at the sewage lagoons, and managed to see them.

The laplands look like they are on our farm in Montney. They would land in the trees between the house and the fields.

Nice birding Chris. Looks like some similarities to our area. I love the Avocet photo. I've also seen Snow Buntings in trees. I think it must happen with buntings and longspurs occasionally.

We lived on 256 Rd, a km east of the community hall, north side of the road. Dusty rose coloured house, now with lots of playground toys in the front yard.
