Hi all, In the last year I’ve gotten into trail running, so I’ve been spending a lot of time in areas that don’t normally get a lot of traffic. One area that seems VERY birdy is Vedder Mountain above the southwest side of Cultus Lake. It has deciduous forest, coniferous forest of various ages, wetlands, and streams. I’ve seen Ruffed Grouse every time I’ve been there this spring (two separate ones yesterday), Pygmy and Barred owls frequently, and an impressive density of songbirds. The easiest way to access the area is by driving up Vedder Mountain FSR and hiking down one of the various trails. The area near the Buddhist monastery in the Columbia Valley is really amazing, but that’s a bit of a long hike from most car access points. Trails like F-100, Lakeland, and Shovelnose are all particularly good. Feel free to PM me or ask questions below if you want more info.

Great tip! I've seen that area from across the lake and it does look very good. With the lake on one side and the mountain on the other it could funnel migrants in quite well. Looking forward to hearing what's being seen there as things start to pick up.
