The weather has been great since my last report. Temps have been around zero the majority of the time. I added two species, Great gray Owl and Barred Owl. The Barred Owl was my 40th species for my winter list. The most I have tallied during the winter months. Species are starting to arrive now. Last weekend I had my first starlings away from town, which almost for sure these are birds that didn't overwinter. There have been a few reports of American Crows as well. Canada Geese are probably around but no reports have any yet. I have noticed fewer Pine Grosbeaks and Hawk Owls around. Moose GG Owl This buck was far away but males with antlers this size don't usually stick around. Here's my list so far Common Goldeneye Common Merganser Ruffed Grouse Sharp-tailed Grouse Rock Pigeon Northern Goshawk Bald Eagle Snowy Owl Northern Hawk Owl Barred Owl Great Gray Owl Short-eared Owl American Three-toed Woodpecker Black-backed Woodpecker Downy Woodpecker Hairy Woodpecker Pileated Woodpecker Gyrfalcon Northern Shrike Canada Jay Blue Jay Black-billed Magpie Common Raven Black-capped Chickadee Red-breasted Nuthatch White-breasted Nuthatch Brown Creeper American Dipper European Starling Bohemian Waxwing House Sparrow Evening Grosbeak Pine Grosbeak Common Redpoll Hoary Redpoll White-winged Crossbill Snow Bunting
