This morning I was very excited to see four different species of warbler at once in my backyard near Sardis Library. In the small stand of plum, cherry, and maple trees that is shared between four yards, I had Yellow, Orange-Crowned, Yellow-Rumped, and Wilson’s all singing happily and gorging on small worms in the canopy. There were also a pair of Purple Finches and numerous White-Crowned Sparrows around. It goes to show what a difference even a few mature deciduous trees can make to the biodiversity of an urban setting. The Wilson’s and Yellow Warblers this morning were new to my yard list, bringing the total to 43 species on or above my yard since we moved in last July.
