I saw these in August near Drumheller, AB and I never have figured out what they are. Any guesses?

Sorry about the poor vid quality. I just wanted you to be able to see some of the behaviours as well. Interestingly, these birds were jumping up above the grass level in order to get a view of what we were doing. The kids thought it was hilarious.

Could they be young ring-necked pheasants? Young grouse et al can be a challenge to ID

Could they be young ring-necked pheasants? Young grouse et al can be a challenge to ID I think that’s probably the most likely answer. There were adult males around. I was just having a hard time with that ID because I grew up around pheasants in Vernon and I never saw large groups of young birds travelling together with no adults around. Even an adult female would have looked very recognizable to me if there had been one mixed in. All that being said, I can’t really think of anything else they could be. Thanks for the confirmation.
