Hello,
I am over-run with Brown-headed Cowbirds this year. Is this happening all over this year or is this because we are rural? Anyone else?
Cheers, Pat

Hi Pat
We are not exactly over run with Cowbirds but we have noticed an increase in the last few days. The birds that have really taken over the feeders here are Evening Grosbeaks and Pine Siskens. The other morning we had all nine ports on the one feeder with a Grosbeak feeding and Siskens landing on every available perch beside the feeders.

I've got an awful lot of Brown headed Cowbirds over here too (Harrison Mills)...in fact they are the predominant species at the feeder these days. I've seen flocks of 30 or more at times and they seem to always be out there. Pine Sisken are still around but only a dozen or so and the large flock of Evening Grosbeak have moved on, there are a pair or two hanging around that I guess are going to nest in the area.
