While leading a fieldtrip at Cheam Lake the class found the remains of this huge moth on the trail. Looks like it was caught by a bird and the wings discarded while the body eaten. Could it be a polyphemus moth? I didnt know we had them here. I managed to get a picture of part of the wing before the pieces were seized and passed around the class.

Gord, would it have been a Polyphemus Moth?--I know that they range in Southern Canada--and wondering if this is what you have? The lighter coloring (buff)--perhaps suggests this giant as opposed to the other, the Polyphemus has the "eye" spots on the lower wing, while the Prometheus has it on the "upper" of the wings, as well the Prometheus seems to be more prevalent in the East---has been many, many years since I tried to study moths in general---Al--(Good eye, Gord--LOL) ;D ;D ;D
