How was last night in your neighborhood? Out here in Vedder (south Chilliwack) we lost power at about 5:30 in the evening, happily just after we finished eating. Then about an hour later, the wind really picked up. Watching out the window at about 10:00, we saw a big blue flash to the north, and then the rest of the neighborhood (our grid seems to be close to another one) went dark. The wind howled all night until about 5:00 am. Around midnight we even had thunder and lightening and at least two short hailstorms. The lights came back on at about 5:30 am, even though BCHydro's prediction when I called in was 9:30 pm when I called before the wind really picked up so Im assuming they got busy and; reason why the line was tied up when we tried to call in for an update. Yikes. Hope everyone survived ok, have their lights back on and so forth. What is this? The 4th storm with high winds this winter?

No kidding!! Actually I read in the paper yesterday (I think the Progress) that there has been 9 storms in total since they started in November (including the snowstorm), which would make last night's storm number 10!! As far as I could tell, last night's storm was the worst one of the bunch too. I'm the kind of person who loves storms, but I was actually a little bit scared last night. I think they're forecasting more wind for tomorrow too. Oh well...maybe it'll blow in something unusual! Like maybe one of those many California birds Dave saw! Even just one of those would be a highlight for me!! ;D Jeff

This is the weather to watch for stuff! Usually the coast is the place to watch for seabirds being blown in, but a few years back over Burnaby (I think?) an albatross was seen cruising overhead after a huge storm.
Another windy day today. Last night, the grid next to us was out most of the night.
This would be storm #11 and more are forcasted before it clears up and gets cold mid next week.

After last night, I think they will find a Albatross in Calgary.

(Do you think there are any birds left in Chilliwack?)

Ya--they seem to be here, at my place--especially the ever present, obnoxious House (English) Sparrow. I know that is likely a misnomer, however it is the name that I grew up with to call the little gluttons (lol) The Finches are here--they seem to have adopted the feeders as their own, as well as the Juncos, I believe that I did see a Towhee this morning, and while he never came to the feeder, his motions in the low brush between apartments, kind of gave him away--never got a clear shot with the camera, as well I "believe" that I may have "resident" Savannah, as well as a "resident" Fox?--Al

After last night, I think they will find a Albatross in Calgary. Had a good laugh at that. Now the wind's from the east, so it should be on its way back. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Keep the feeders full! They'll be extra hungry. With the nice sun opportunities for photos will be good too. Look forward to seeing any you get Al.
