A little project Ive been plugging away on for the last few months has finally reached the point to where it can 'go live'. Between my busy life and sketchy website building skills, it was a bit of a longshot at the beginning. Thanks to all who checked the draft over, shared their thoughts and comments and pointed out the errors. Any errors remaining are solely my responsability. Im quite excited at this little project. I feel it will compliment our forum very nicely. While the checklist covers 'our' area, I hope that our 'out of town' friends will take advantage of the opportunities for you to be involved too. The site always needs photos, articles and site guides to your favourite areas. Im always keen to see new places! Of course, data from when you birded our area will be most welcome. I think the checklist will give new birders and birders new to the area a indepth idea of what species occur when and where. Fieldguides are good, but understandably cannot provide local information like this site will. Check it out and see what you all think. Feel free to point out things that dont work or share some thoughts. There is TONS of work to do yet, mostly on building the species list. If you see anything in where you can share photos or data, feel free to do so. Here is the site. It is being hosted by a free server at the moment. I hope it will be reliable. One day it we may make a new domain and forum where we can move to, but that's in the future. www2.webng.com/FVBirding/index.htmI look forward to your comments and encourage everyone to be a part as much as they like!

Gord: Congratulations on a job well done. I am sure all " regulars " to the discussion group, as well as new participants, will enjoy this worthy addition to the provincial birding scene. Thor

I forgot to mention that you can easily follow the site's updates by checking the 'Recent Updates and Announcements" section at the bottom of the homepage. As things are updated, it will be noted here.
Helpful for those who have looked at all that's currently on the page and are hungry for new goods (or to see when Ive finally added your contributions!)

Thanks all!
Ive been picking away at updates. You will notice we have a weather button on the main page now. As Boston Bar and Hope are the same, when I update next I replaced Boston Bar (wanted to hit all the corners of the area) with Manning Park. Chilliwack doesnt show a weather icon next to the temperature. I thought it was me but it's The Weather Networks malfunction which I hope they fix.
Some species that need rounding out.
American Redstart. I remember a sighting of 7 birds somewhere in the Hope area. Who was that? Thor?
Anna's Hummingbird. I have no data for this species in our area.
Am. White Pelican. Jason, I think you had a flock of 6 over Cheam Lake. I keep forgetting to ask you about the date and details.
Ill stop there. Anything anyone sees, (mistakes, more info needed, pictures etc) let me know.

Great site. I appreciate the tremendous amount of work that went into it. I just revamped the Chilliwack Field Naturalists web site and put a link to FV Birding on the side bar. There was an Anna's reported in HHS last summer but I did not actually observe it. I can check it out if you're interested. Janne Harrison Hot Springs

Just an update on what's going on with the site.
Ive had a crazy summer and the little chance Ive had to work on the site has been to do some tweeks. I certainly hope that opportunity will open up again before soccer starts!
So, it's not dead, just taking a minor rest. I will create a message to put on the site to mentions this!
Thanks for all the support to date and I look forward to getting going full bore on it again!

Ok, got things rolling again! I hope regular updates can continue. Im excited to have got some field observations which I will input next. Keep them coming! Feel free to contribute where ever you like. A writeup on a favourite bird species or birding location is always needed. It can be short and sweet. No need for anything elaborate! www2.webng.com/FVBirding/index.htm

Thanks Kevin for your kind words and for your contributions that help make it what it is. I have just updated the site tonight. I have changed the bird list from alphabetic order to taxonomic order for more easy navigation and finding species. Let me know how this looks and if it is better. I left a link to alphabetic still but the taxonomic order page is the default page. Here is the link to the website again even though I know you all have it bookmarked already. ;D www2.webng.com/FVBirding/index.htm

Gord: Here is a really late reply to a question. Back in March (!!), on this thread, you asked about a sighting of 7 American Redstarts in Hope. You may wish to send Birdman, a member of this group, an e-mail on this. A few years back I know he had Hope sightings of American Redstart, and Red eyed Vireo, I believe in the month of August, around the edge of a temporary slough of the Fraser River near the airport. I don't remember how many. I followed up the report the next day, and saw both species, but, not seven redstarts. I had a sighting of a female American Redstart on the Sucker Creek Trail last June 11th. As far as Anna's Hummingbird is concerned, I have another memory of Jason reporting one from his property, but I could be wrong on this. Maybe he will reply if he sees this. Cheers, Thor

Thor and Gord,
in terms of Anna's Hummingbird, a few years ago I attended the Pre Mission/Abbotsford Bird Count meeting and somebody, I can't remember who, was talking about getting Anna's regularly somewhere on Eagle Mountain in Abbotsford. Maybe Stan or Lynn remembers who this was.

Concerning Anna's Hummingbirds, I don't recall the details of the discussion at the pre count meeting, Brent, but I think probably the reference would have been to Steve Howard who has had Anna's at his feeders for a few winters now. I don't know exactly how many years.
They are spreading, as they are elsewhere in SW BC. Brian Carson has had a pair frequenting his feeder for a few weeks in the area of Gladwin and McLure, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were more locations as well.
