Went for a drive from Langley to Chilliwack yesterday morning. Took some photo's of the Trumpeter Swans in the field on Inter-Provincial Hwy. Noticed in one of my photo's a red, plastic, numbered neck band as well as a leg band on one of the swans. Now, I don't now how often these are seen but it interested me so I did some research. The Washington Dept. of Fish & Wildlife capture Trumpeter Swans and fit them with red, plastic numbered collars with radio transmitters in order to track them. This helps to find out where the birds have been picking up lead shot that kills them. There is even an 'Adopt-A-Swan' program (info available on the Trumpeter Swan Society Website ). This may be 'old news' to the members here, but if anyone has more info on this it would be interesting to hear about. - Pat
