A number of years ago, a Hazelnut orchard was cut down a couple of miles away here in Agassiz and the gray squirrels spread in all directions. We used to see chipmunks and the occassional Douglas squirrel on our property and just a few gray squirrels, but with the orchard cutting, the grays took over and we've seen nothing since. But just a couple of days ago we heard a different sound in the yard, a spotted this little one a couple of times. So nice to see them again! Can anyone tell if it is a Least?

I used to have 2 coming to feed on the ground under the Sunflower feeder on a regular basis. Then I think the neighbours cat got them. Luckily the local coyotes got the cat but too late for the Chipmunks! My Abbotsford location is not the type of habitat preferred by these little guys but up on the Sunshine Coast where my cabin sits on a rocky bluff with mature Douglas Fir they thrive and you get to witness spectacles like this: flic.kr/p/oSGhTL
