I was inspired by Len's great river otter pictures to dig out a short river otter video that I made last spring using my camera. The otter was in Lafarge Lake in Town Centre Park in Coquitlam. We're not sure how the otter got in but we have a pretty good idea of why he likes it there. This pond is regularly stocked (except in the hottest months) with fish for anyone to come and try to catch. For the otter, it's a free buffet. Plus there are all the yummy things that it finds in the pond like the thing with claws that it is eating in the video.
The video was taken with my Panasonic FZ200 which was hand-held for this shoot. I was standing on the shore perhaps 30 feet from and in plain site of the otter who clearly was used to hangin' near people. I took the raw camera footage (all 20 seconds of it) and added an introduction screen and put it on YouTube. This time, I used Adobe Premiere Elements 11 Video Editor to put the video together and to publish it to YouTube. There is no added music - I just left the original sound-track (for now) consisting of background (city) noise, a crow and, if you listen carefully, something that might be the sound of the otter crunching on its meal.
So, here is a link to the video: Snacking River Otter

Great video! I love watching these guys. I'm always amazed at how they move through the water.

I always find an encounter with otters to be very entertaining. Thanks Kevin Yes, and especially entertaining when there is more than one otter. I was looking through all of your otter pictures and I think that my favourites are your River Otter Family series with my overall favourite being River Otter family 2. What's the story behind this series of pictures?

Kevin-Dave Beeke just bought the same camera equipment as me so we went to Blackies Spit to try it out. We were walking along a dyke on the south side of the area when this family of otters caught our attention. They pulled out of the water and I set up the tripod on them and got those pictures. There were people everywhere but not many saw what we were watching and the otter were not very skittish. lenjellicoe.zenfolio.com/p733144743/h896e3bb#h15ad9d76Glad you liked it. I had to clone out a bunch of brambles and the light was behind them so although the composition is great the quality is not.
