Brian Stech took this photo of a mushroom recently and I am posting on his behalf. Does anyone know what it's name is?

Gord, I think this an amanita muscaria (one of the poisonous mushrooms in the Northern hemisphere). The Amanita Muscaria tends to vary in color from yellow to orange to red. but the white stalk and the flap as well as the speckled umbrella pretty much points it out as one.

On Mount Outram last week there were millions and millions of fungi of all shapes and sizes. We've never seen so many. From big - 8 or 9 inches across: to small: to exotic looking: We've no idea what any of them are. If even a small proportion of them are edible, nobody needs go hungry on that mountain.... Bryan

I have no idea what mushrooms those are, Bryan, but as an off-topic question, I notice that you are often reporting from Mount Outram. I have never hiked it and you seem to be regularly attracted to it . What draws you to this mountain? My scrambles book says it is 5 to 9 hours just to summit. Not a short walk in the park! Always interested in local hikes, Dave Beeke
