A short-tailed weasel was attempting a road crossing from the marshy area near Limbert Farms to the base of the mountain this morning. Fortunately he turned back before he got into any trouble. This area is a few kms. west of Agassiz. It was my first sighting of this species since the early 1980's in the southern cariboo when I watched one being dragged across the road by a snowshoe hare which had the weasel attached to it's side.

Hi Murray I was just wondering if a car came along and ran over the weasel's tail. It started out as Long-tailed and by the time it got to the end it was a Short-tailed>

Thanks Len! It started out as a short tail and the last I saw of it, it was still short! There's probably a way to correct the original post but it's beyond my abilities.

I just saw my first Long-tailed Weasel today here in Collingwood Ontario where I am visiting. I love the colour of their summer coat. Anyways, I was out on the spit where the grain elevators are located (home to many nesting Cliff Swallows), right at the end watching a merganser when the Long-tailed Weasel snuck out of the boulders forming the spit's retaining wall, moving right towards the larger bird. The merganser saw it in time and moved into the water and away from the weasel which then disappeared back amongst the boulders.
The entire event lasted between 5 and 10 seconds. I cannot imagine what might have ensued if the weasel had gotten close enough to pounce.
