Hi all.
The free Birds and Blooms online Newsletter had the following interesting blurb. Perhaps most of you already know these terms, but I know that I'm not up on the bird lingo, so I found this interesting and somewhat humorous. Gord--what's the difference between a kettle and a cast of hawks?
Also, I'm not breaking any copyright rules here, am I? Here's the blurb: I especially found #12 and 13 kind of humorous. ;D

Birds by Any Other Name.
YOU MAY KNOW that a group of geese on the ground is referred to as a “gaggle.” But did you know that the same group flying overhead is called a “skein” of geese?
While most people refer to any group of birds as a “flock,” here’s a sampling of the correct names for other bird groupings compiled by Jerrilyn F. of New Orleans, Louisiana:
1 A cast of hawks
2 A bevy of quail
3 A host of sparrows
4 A covey of partridges
5 A siege of herons or bitterns
6 A flight of doves or swallows
7 A company of wigeons
8 A spring of teal
9 A covert of coots
10 A herd of swans, cranes or curlews
11 A congregation of plovers
12 An exaltation of larks
13 A murmuration of starlings
14 A desert of lapwings
15 A muster of peacocks
---------------------------------------------
Here's the website to sign up for the free newsletter--the magazine (which has a price) always has very interesting stories and beautiful pictures.
