An Acorn Woodpecker visited a peanut feeder in a backyard in Sunshine Valley today. I'm not sure if there will be any viewing opportunities so for now a fun sighting to hear about. Thanks to Brian Carson for the sighting and to his daughter Cindy who tracked me down to pass it along. Brian takes pretty nice photos and Im sure he'll send one along soon.
This is the third sighting for our checklist area (Abbotsford, Manning Park and now Sunshine Valley) and I believe the fifth or sixth documented for all of B.C. Many sightings have been recent which collaborate some theories the species is moving around due to acorn shortages to the south. Time will tell.

Talked to Brian this morning and the bird, a female, was back at his feeders. Brian offered the chance for interested parties to come for a look. For now, message me or send me an email (gord@fraservalleybirding.com) and I will help set it up.

Gord that is a great sighting for our area. Three records in our area as well so far. Interesting to see how long this bird hangs around.

Brian called and updated that the bird was there again this morning. He also said that he is ok with anyone wishing to come up to see. See above for contact.

It seems there is also one coming to a feeder in Merritt.
Wow! Acorn overload.
