Hi This Rubber Boa was rescued from certain death on a busy road near our place. The first photo shows its small eyes and in the second you can see its short blunt tail which resembles its head. A few months ago I came across another in the same vicinity, unfortunately it had tire tread marks on its body. Deb

Nice work rescuing it.
I have never seen one, I believe they are nocturnal and rarely seen. Amazing animals.

Amazing find Deb. I have read about them and always hoped I would see one some day. Wonderful to know that there are still some left. Maybe you should contact some university in the herpetology department. I'm sure there would be some serious interest in your find.

Deb, a friend of mine is really interested in snakes and apparently Rubber Boas are difficult to see in the valley. Good sighting! I learned a bunch 'googling' Rubber Boas. Thanks for the posting and the learning opportunity you created. Nice pictures too and thanks for taking the time to rescue the snake. Good work with the clean-up as well.
Thanks for sharing the sighting.

We've been fortunate to see 6 Rubber Boas in this area but sadly two were dead. My neighbour who has lived here for decades was saying that he use to see quite a few on a regular basis but these reptile sightings have certainly declined. The day I saw this one, its body was lying in a very straight line on the road. I usually keep an eye out for odd-looking "sticks" on the road that could be a snake needing to be gently encouraged to move off road. Murray, I did fill in a Wildlife Sighting Form on the Ministry of the Environment's site: www.bcreptiles.ca/snakes/rubberboa.htmThanks deb
