While out doing some cutthroat brood capture for the hatchery on Friday I took a break to do a little birding. ;D On Seabird Island I saw 3 fields just full of swans, must have been over 200. I filmed them with the video camera and will review as I panned it with the idea of getting a proper count later.
Last night on Hopedale Road, just South of South Sumas also got some nice footage of another large flock. As it was near dusk I got a lot of talking from them as they prepared to head to their night roosting area, on the Fraser River I believe. Then I was able to get more footage as they took off, including getting a picturesque few frames of a family of 5 that swung overhead with Mt. Cheam and Lady Peak as a backdrop.
I will report the exact number I saw at a later date, when I have time to review the whole footage.

Right on. Seems to be a good number of them this year! Dave counted an incredible 315 at Cheam Wetlands recently. Must have been quite the sight! I expect those birds and others will hang around for the winter unless all the food goes or it gets really ugly weather (more cold than wet probably!) wise.

Went over the footage this evening, I was out a little on my count as I observed 182 but may have missed some juveniles as sometimes they are hard to see at the distance I filmed them at. The location was at Kamp Road and Seabird Island Road.
