With shorebirds already on the move and the little birds, raptors and etc not far behind, what are people's plans during this time?
Since I wont have time to get out to Boundary Bay for the shorebirds, Ill be hanging around locally.
Im for sure going to watch for solitary sandpipers. They show up like clockwork at Cheam Lake Wetlands the first to second week of August.
Im also hoping to check out local turf farms and other short grass areas for buff-breasted sandpipers. Im sure they come through. A few years back when there was a huge invasion of them at Boundary Bay I bet money there was a few here as well. We'll see about that long shot.
Other than that, I plan to get out for some early mornings to check out the migration of songbirds and see what's coming by. Im hoping for a few days of poorish weather that will create a 'fallout'*
* A fallout is when poor weather forces migrating birds to slow down their movements until the weather clears. Sometimes you can catch a huge fallout of songbirds numbering in the hundreds and consisting of several species.
