Today, I took a trip to the Boundary Bay area looking for Shrike and Short-eared Owl. I came up empty on the owl, but saw 3 shrike. I understand that the SEO showed well, at the foot of 72nd ave., near sunset. Every season I give myself a photography project. Last year, I successfully captured Belted Kingfisher exiting the water with fish. This season, my project is to capture a Northern Shrike with Prey. Today, I saw a shrike almost capture a quick acting sparrow. The project continues.

Great shots Wes! I love both the subject and how the colouration works well as a "photo". It's an excellent idea to focus on a specific project. When I go up to the lake in Oliver I focus on trying to get the Osprey pulling a fish from the water. Well done!

Ho WOW that is an amazing shot!! Incredible colours and sharpness.
Front cover of our calendar idea? ;D ;D Or maybe not, because that photo should be looked at for 31 days!!

Beautiful Shrike photo - Karen was there yesterday morning and didn't come back with any usable images. What time were you there?

Thanks for the comments, everyone.
David, I was in the Boundary Bay Area from about 10:30-2:30. I was walking on the Dyke, at 72nd, at about 11:30-12:15. The SEOs became active at about 3:00pm, my contacts tell me. Also, the light is much better situated in the late afternoon for the Boundary Bay Dyke.
See you in the field.
Wes
