Hello birders,
I was in Surrey today and decided to check out the reports of a Northern Hawk-Owl on Westham Island, in Delta, about a kilometre or so from the Reifel Bird Sanctuary entrance. I found the bird easily by spotting the large group of photographers with their cameras aimed at this real beauty. The bird put on quite a show when I was there, flying all over the place and giving all viewing wonderful looks.
Cheers, Brent Schmor Harrison Mills

Like Brent and many others I went to Delta(today Dec 05) to see the Northern Hawk Owl. I wasn't dissapointed. It was easily seen and observed in a tree beside the road for 40 minutes. It is a beautiful bird and happens to be a life bird for me!! I've taken a number of trips to Merrit and Kamloops in winter, hoping to see a Northern Hawk Owl or a Great Grey Owl, but haven't been successful with those species until now! My son has seen at least 2 Great Grey Owls in the Lac La Jeune area in the last 2 years.

Congrats Brent and Ed! I have never seen a Northern Hawk Owl in BC before, but it would have to hangout for a few months before I have a free day to go see it. I did see a Northern Hawk Owl in New Brunswick years ago, but that was a touch longer of a drive. Thanks for sharing,

We went to have a look on Saturday afternoon and the owl is still there. I could not get a very good shot at him as it was rather dark and rainy, but here he is. (Deleted and re-posted as the file was very large.) Attachments:
