It was a dull, rainy day this afternoon so I took an opportunity to learn some flash features on a new camera body. I chose a Varied Thrush at my feeder. The flash setting was set to 1/4000 sec. camera on manual. Such a short burst of light in daylight will not adversely affect the bird's retina, and it paid the flash no notice at all. The flash did result in sharper and more colour vibrant images.

Varied Thrush are such a gorgeous bird. I might try this to get a picture of a Pacific Wren. They are extremely difficult to see and when they do show themselves they either move around too quickly or they sit in a dark spot.
