A walk to Leary Park this afternoon resulted in a Rough-legged hawk on top of a large willow tree , as well as a Common Snipe and 3 Common Yellowthroat. I also saw a large flock of 30-40 American Goldfinches flying and feeding in the weedy field south of Leary Park. Hoping for shorebirds (especially a buff-breasted sandpiper), I checked several sod fields between No. 3 Rd and Whatcom on my way to school in Abbotsford this afternoon, but I didn't see anything. --Jeff

Good work!! The winter's first rough-legged hawk! ;D ;D Possibly one of the more early than typical arrivals too! That's an impressive Am. goldfinch flock as well!

Merry Christmas all ...no, I didn't see any long-billed curlews, but there was a Rough-legged hawk both yesterday (Sunday, Dec 24) at 2:08 p.m., and today (Monday, Dec 25) at 9:00 a.m. as well as at 12:15 p.m. It was in a relatively small bare tree at the "Hoof Hearted" farm on the northwest corner of Prest Rd. and the highway. The tree is close to the road and next to the red-and-white "Hoof hearted" sign. Nice-looking bird...might be worth a look. Jeff
