Today on my rounds I heard what I thought was a Swamp Sparrow call twice. I figured, "No way! What are the chances?" As I walked by, I had a look as since I have little experience with them, it would be pretty bold to say it was a Swamp Sparrow without visual confirmation. Sure enough, I caught a couple glimpses of it. Amazing! This guy will be easy to find again and say it's the same one I saw as it does not have much of a tail. Had I not heard the one at Thacker last week, I might have not noticed it. Im always listening for something different when Im out and about, but to just hear something possibly different just twice I might have not have took the time to pause. Certainly always learning something new. A horrible photo of the bird as it was flying away. Im not expecting anyone to look at the picture and say "Nice Swamp Sparrow" but the lack of tail is visible! I think it has just a short one. I forgot to mention it was seen at the 'swampy' area in the western end of Island 22 Park. Also here were several Yellow-rumped Warblers, two or three Ruby-crowned Kinglets, a Northern Shrike and a couple Western Grebes out on the water. Tons of Fox Sparrows around!

Photo of the month material for sure! Hopefully, it sticks around. I will probably check Friday afternoon. It is a good excuse to go to Island 22 as I haven't been there for a while.

Chris, thanks for the smile!! ;D ;D
Both the sparrows at Island 22 and Thacker have not been seen. I was at Thacker yesterday morning and while fairly busy (including two Marsh Wrens) no luck. Yesterday and Tuesday's checks (while brief) showed nothing either. It was pretty windy yesterday though. Swamp Sparrows hold the possibility of hanging around for the winter so dont discount them yet.
