Hello birders,
the Great Egret that Kathy reported yesterday was seen this morning (Sept 6) at 7:30 am from the viewing platform at Eagle Point Park in Harrison Mills. The bird is foraging on the exposed mud flats.

Hello birders,
the Great Egret was still wandering the mud flats as of 9:30. Also in the area where two Gray Catbirds, one seen by the viewing platform and the other heard by the log bay.
Cheers, Brent

Was down there about 11 am and there was no sign of the Egret. Heard the Catbirds....there was a pair of them nesting over here this past summer.

Thanks to Kathy with her original report, and to Brent who posted that he saw it this morning. I was able to drive out there, and I observed the bird for about twenty minutes until just after 10:00. It was too far out for my camera to take decent pictures though. A lifer for me.
I am pretty sure that is the latest date for the Catbirds within our checklist area.

Just had an email from my friend in Eagle Point, plus some pictures of the Egret taken by another resident at Eagle Point. My friend thinks there were 2 of them there this morning. He spooked one which was right in the log bay and watched it fly down towards the golf course and he said there was another one about 300 meters out. I haven't made it back down there but my husband is down there right now so if he see's it I'll let you all know. Kathy

The single bird was still there at around 3:00p.m. Took some photos but at that distance 300mm just doesn't cut it.

A friend and I ventured out after the rain and met both Kathy and her "bear' and later Brent. The Egret was fabulous. Here's a photo: Janne Perrin Harrison Hot Springs

The Egret continues, Sept. 7, 5:00pm. Cool!!!!!! The G.B. Herons were occassionally doing that thing they do to each other, by landing almost on top of it, forcing it to move over 10 or 20 feet, then the heron steals the fishing spot.

Nice pictures of the Egret Gord. You can notice the size difference in the first picture between the Great Blue Heron and the Great Egret.
I can't believe you saw Bohemian Waxwings there at this time of year. Nice to hear that the Catbird is still there.

Hi all, dad and i went down to eagle point and saw the great egret, but we didn't have a very good look at it because it was far away on the other side of the point and the sun was shining on the water. we also saw a northern harrier, black-capped chickadees, white-crowned sparrows, steller's jays, great blue heron and an unidentified flycatcher and probable sharp-shinned hawk.
