As the family was sitting down to lunch, the children exclaimed at how many hummingbirds were at the feeder outside the dining room window. As I walked to sit down, I enjoyed seeing a little flurry of three hummers jockeying for position like they do. Then I noticed one looked a little different. I traded lunch for a camera and ended up capturing a nice male Black-chinned Hummingbird! ;D A first for me in the Fraser Valley never mind in my yard! It came a few times during lunch. We did not see it after though. At first, was not sure if it could be (very unlikely!) a Ruby-throated Hummingbird. The light was poor but managed to see a little purple. Interesting the white feathers in the wings. Both wings had one or two. Also a tail feather was white (see photo above).

Great bird Gord! Denis Knopp mentioned that this is the time of year that he has seen them a couple of times as well.

That's awesome Gord and great photos as well especially the last one! Hummingbirds are amazing animals and with this weather they are coming to feeders more often.

Awesome little bird, Gord; a memorable family experience and great pictures! Our new neighbours have been feeding the hummers around their place. I'll be watching for any unusual visitors since it's not far from your place.
