Yesterday, I joined the throngs making the trip over to see the female Painted Bunting in Brentwood Bay. Had good looks in the brilliant sunshine, with Brent and Carolynn Schmor. Met John Vooys, and George Clulow on the ferry who were also on this quest. Today, I had a Northern Shrike on the Jack Delair farm by the Hope airport. Quite a contrast in birds over two days; a late winter bird, presumably on his way north, and a bird, which in the summer time, doesen't usually get much north of Texas!! Jack's farm is a birdy place, and always has the possibility of rarities. He farms organically, and has a variety of habitats within the confines of his property. This winter he had a Long-eared Owl. A few years ago he had Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, and for the past two summers he has had Bobolink in his hayfield. Luckily, he usually gives me a call if something shows up. If I can confirm the sighting, I will post here. Thor Manson Hope, B.C.

Excellent! Bobolink is certainly a worthwhile coastal bird record! I might have made a little trip up the valley for the scissor-tailed flycatcher too... Keep us posted!
