I should be ashamed, but on my way running a quick errand I drove through some fields to check on the gulls. I drove by the landfill and there seemed to be between 1000-2000 gulls there. Out in the fields, I guessed there being maybe 5000 gulls total. Without doing it properly with a scope I managed to see pretty well what you'd expect to see. 5 Mew gull 3 Thayer's gull 6 Herring gull 1(2?) Western gull Thousands of Glaucous winged gulls Lots of hybrid and/or 'too far away but it wasnt white or dark backed' gulls. One of the western gulls I saw seemed to have a bit more streaking in its head then a pure western gull should. Slaty-backed gull is not impossible but I could not see this bird well enough to say for certain if it's a hybrid (so common in gulls) or something cool like a slaty-backed. Hope to get out with the scope and check things more closely soon in these fantastic gull conditions. Might as well enjoy the warm and wet weather for something. ;D
