Its taken me a while to get this posted, but last Sunday my husband and I decided to test out some new cold weather gear and went for a walk, in the snow, in the Chehalis Flats area. Apart from the usual gulls, ducks and eagles, spotted a Savannah Sparrow (got a picture to prove it) and a number of smallish birds that I suspect were pipits but never got a good enough look at to be sure. On the trail of one of these bird I came across a Western Meadowlark (also got a very poor picture of it) as well. Seems to me that both the Sparrow and the Meadowlark should have been somewhere warmer. Sadly, I found a dead Pygmy Owl in my backyard yesterday. Don't know what happened to him, he was way down the back of the yard so don't think it could have been a collision with a window. Don't know if the Sharp Shin that had been in the yard the day before had anything to do with it.
